Suggested Sewing instructions for Advent Calendar
Make these easy to construct Advent calendars and fill them with your choice of sweets and treats for Christmas.
Makower 2463/1 Scandi Red Advent Calendar Panel
Backing fabric and wadding (70 cm x 112cm / 27.5” x 44”) Thread to match
 
Preparation
Iron the panel then cut around the border.
Next cut out the pockets along the solid lines.
Cut your batting and backing fabric slightly larger than the panel piece.
Layer up your backing, batting and the panel and pin, tack or spray baste together.
Quilt along the border lines of the panel.
Cut a fabric sleeve 3” wide and 2” shorter than the width of the panel.
Iron a 1⁄4” wide strip of fusible (Bondaweb, etc) to the top of the pockets on the wrong side.
Turn to the back and fuse down with iron. If you wish you can sew this edge down.
Turn under the bottom and side edges of all the pockets. Press.
 
Assembly and Finishing
Pin the pockets over their matching designs and sew along the sides and bottom edges. Back stitch at the top edges for strength.
Trim away any excess batting and backing fabric.
Turn under the short sides of the sleeve and sew down. Iron 1⁄4” under one long edge of the sleeve only. This is the bottom edge of the sleeve.
On the back, line up the top edge of the sleeve with the top edge of the quilt, centering the sleeve. Tack in place.
Bind your calendar using your favourite method. Note: the sleeve will be sewn in with the binding.
Slide the folded bottom edge of the sleeve up 1⁄4”, pin and sew in place by hand. This helps the panel hang flat when a rod or batten is inserted.
Fill the pockets with goodies and enjoy!
